I love musicals.

I really do.

Whilst incredibly unrealistic, there is something about them that I can’t help but love. Even the terrible ones. They can be cheesy, they can be painful, they are generally very unrealistic and contrived, yet I love them. Perhaps they appeal to my sense of whimsy. Or maybe it’s something to do with me being an idealist champion (or is it champion idealist? I have no clue as to what order they should be in…). In any case, I love them. Generally, if something has spontaneous singing in it, I will enjoy it (yes, this does mean that perhaps I don’t actually hate HSM as much as I profess to. What can I say? They sing. I’m a sucker for music).

So, in honour of my great love of musicals, I have decided to compile a list of my favourites. In alphabetical order, because ranking them would be a near impossible task.

Across the Universe
Aida
The Apple Tree
Beauty and the Beast
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More With Feeling
Cabaret
Candide
Cats
Chicago
Funny Girl
Grease
Hairspray

Of course, this list is likely to grow, and change, as I inevitably recall more musicals I love which I have inadvertently left off the list.
